an instrument for measuring magnetic forces, esp. the earth's magnetic field

Inside this device is a miniature computer, complete with a CPU, memory and input-output just like your laptop or home computer. When first powered up the
device runs a self test and calibration routine. You can see this as the readout displays the text "INITIAL" on the second line and the LED alternates from red to green.

Use this tool to measure the strength and polarity of your slot car magnets from HO to R/C cars and other magnetic applications.
It displays the results on the readout as 'NO" for North and a red led.
"SO" for South and a green led. The results are displayed in units of measure called "Gauss"(gauss$[es ) the basic unit of magnetic flux density in the CGS system, equal to one line of magnetic flux per square centimeter

Many motor builders say that the strength, and the two magnets being equal
is very important. You can also use this tool to find magnets that need Zapping
and verify the results. It will also indicate witch is north or south pole also said to be important to placement in the can.

The top line displays the Max reading and polarity of the current test. It will hold the reading until the reset is pressed. The last two characters are the polarity (NO -north & SO-south)
The bottom displays the current reading in real time.The display and memory are cleared when the reset is pressed.

The battery compartment is marked as to the placement of the battery, how ever if the battery is installed incorrectly there is a protection circuit that will prevent the device from coming on and will not cause damage. Just reinstall the battery.

many customers would like a custom ID on the readout prior to the Initialization routine.

This text would be comprised of two lines of eight characters each. Any text found on a standard keyboard is possible, case sensitive plus explanation marks i.e. ;-) . This ID would display on power up and stay until the rest button is pressed.
